Highland and United delighted the crowd last year in the Boy's Under-19 National Championship, and the same pulsating action will return to Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday. United and Highland will kickoff at 4:30 p.m. and will be webcast live on USA Rugby's UStream channel, www.ustream.tv/usarugby.
Salt Lake City powerhouse Highland powered through West Shore (Harrisburg, Pa.) 57-0 and Cathedral (Indianapolis, Ind.) 26-0, giving them a championship berth once again. Highland coach, Larry Gelwix, will see his team to yet another championship in his final year with the team.
United's path to the championship game was less smooth than Highland. In their first match, Naples nearly caused a massive upset of the current champions. United dodged a bullet in the end and kept their championship hopes alive.
Utah United had a scare in their final game of the day also as the Kansas City Jr. Blues staged a comeback in the second half. The first half was mostly one-way traffic as United's massive forwards caused chaos for KC's outside backs. However, Kansas City rallied at half time and were able to gut out a solid performance in the 29-20 loss.
The championship game should be a thriller as both teams want to claim national and in-state bragging rights and Highland will be keen to settle the score and allow their storied coach to end his U19 career on a high.
