The famed Highland Rugby team claimed their 20th National Championship Saturday by defeating Utah United in the Emirates Airline USA Rugby Boy's Under-19 National Championship. In the hair-raising encounter, both sides showcased remarkable skill and athleticism. Highland's outside center, Antonio Lavemai, was outstanding and scored two tries off incredibly strong runs that caught the attention of many onlookers.
The first half was tight and United came out firing, but Highland was able to outlast and put enormous defensive pressure on United to close out the match.
Russ Parai, the United flyhalf, kicked well and kept his team in the running and his outside center, Kisi Unufe, scored a brace in the encounter.
Legendary Highland coach, Larry Gelwix, announced his retirement from coaching and was celebrated on Friday night at Rio Tinto Stadium in honor of his massive contribution to the sport and to the lives of all his players.
