Eagles too strong for Ireland

SAO PAULO, Brazil – After losing their first two matches of the IRB Women’s Sevens World Series event in Sau Paulo, Brazil, the Women’s Eagles Sevens picked apart Ireland for a 22-0 victory.

Jessica Javelet, who was the only Eagle to score in the USA’s first two matches of the day, picked up a hat trick against Ireland. Just as she did at the World Series’ previous stop in Atlanta, the crossover athlete scored three tries in a single match by using speed that outmatched her opposition.

Megan Bonny, receiving her first start of the tournament, picked up a loose ball from behind a ruck and spun towards the try line for the Eagles’ first try. From there, it was all Javelet. The swift sweeper produced a try in the first half and tacked on two more in the second half.

The win cemented the Eagles’ third place finish in Pool A following losses to both England and New Zealand to begin the tournament.

Women’s Sevens from Brazil continues tomorrow. Check the Women’s Sevens World Series website for updates of when the Eagles will be in action next.
