U.S. HS All-Americans Split Series with Ontario

BOULDER, Colo. – The U.S. Boys’ High School All-American Rugby Team wrapped up its summer assembly with a two-match series against the Ontario Under-18s over the holiday weekend.

On July 3, the U.S. lost a nail-biter, falling to Ontario 27-26. The High School All-American Team rebounded well, however, and dominated the Canadian side 46-27, just two days later, on July 5.

“We were able to provide 30 players an opportunity to prove their ability against a representative team that plays together on a consistent basis,” U.S. H.S. All-American Coach Scott Lawrence said. “In addition, a number of new athletes earned an opportunity to play for the U-20s going forward.

We're pleased with the identification and development achieved within the first year of the HSAA program and look forward to ushering in a new crop of young talent,” Lawrence added.

The USA’s wing, Madison Hughes definitely made an impression for the American side, slotting eight of 10 total conversions, while making two penalty kicks in the final match. Dallas Jesuit’s Daniel Metcalf and Highland’s Tana Afeaki also helped lead the way for the High School All-American’s scoring two tries each against the Canadians.

The young U.S. side travelled home yesterday following a week long assembly at Seneca College in Toronto.
