Chicago Dragons RFC campaign to provide funding for youth rugby programs in the State of Illinois
Chicago, Illinois – Chicago Dragons Rugby Football Club (www.chicagodragons.org) and Groupon Grassroots (http://grassroots.groupon.com), the philanthropic arm of Groupon, announce the launch of a local campaign to support the development of youth rugby clubs across the State of Illinois.
The Illinois Youth Rugby campaign will be available on the Chicago Groupon Grassroots page beginning on Monday, May 28 and running through Sunday, June 3. Utilizing Groupon Grassroots’ collective action model, Groupon subscribers can pledge support for the Illinois Youth Rugby initiative in increments of $10, with each $150 providing the support for one youth to play rugby for a year.
The Illinois Youth Rugby Association is responsible for the organization of rugby competitions between high school and youth rugby clubs within the state, staging the annual State Rugby Championship Finals, and also the administration of the Illinois All State rugby team—Tornados (boys) and Tornadoes (girls)—to play competitive rugby games against other All State teams and international youth rugby teams.
iYRA organizes and encourages participation of both girls and boys of all ages up to their late teen years to learn and play the sport of rugby.
As with all emerging sports, funding from schools and communities is scarce until the sport has taken hold in the community long enough that the public demands its funding. Your donation will help iYRA expand greater in the State of Illinois so that all communities across the state can take part and enjoy the amazing sport of Rugby.
“We are excited to employ the collective action model of Groupon Grassroots to raise support for the Illinois Youth Rugby Association (iYRA),” said Craig Sklenar, President, Chicago Dragons RFC. “We look forward to creating new awareness for both the Chicago Dragons and the Illinois Youth Rugby Association as one of the local organizations in Chicago to be featured on Groupon Grassroots.”
100% percent of the Groupon Grassroots campaign proceeds will be used to provide equipment, training and fees to support new youth rugby clubs in Chicago and around the State of Illinois.
In addition to supporting iYRA, the Chicago Dragons are working to develop a new youth rugby program in the Bridgeport neighborhood of the City of Chicago. Summer camps and a small fall season will begin in June of 2012. Funds from this effort will be used to educate coaches, provide supplies for camps and advertising in the community to promote this new sport option in the neighborhood.
