The week of December 5, 2011 was National Rugby Coach Appreciation Week. To kick it off, we had our National Team coaches express their gratitude for the commitment and passion that coaches all over the country share with their players.
For Kevin O’Brien and Chris Leach, the coaches of the World Cup-winning 1991 USA Women’s Eagles, it is all about instilling a belief in yourself and striving for perfection. A win wasn’t as important to these coaches as playing a respectable style of rugby with one key tenet: no regrets.
The USA went 2-1 on day one of the South Africa Sevens, the third stop on the HSBC Sevens World Series with a win over Argentina (21-14) and losses to Samoa (12-14) and England (7-26). They now face Zimbabwe in the bowl quarterfinals.
Over the course of Rugby Coach Appreciation Week, USA Rugby will feature various coaches from around the country, highlight offerings to USA Rugby members, and show coaches how much they mean to their players and the sport.
The USA Women’s Eagle Sevens team claimed fourth place in the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens, with an overall record of 2-3. The tournament marked the start of the first-ever IRB Women’s Sevens Challenge Cup.
