USA Rugby officially announced the list of men’s rugby sevens athletes that have signed full-time training contracts for 2012. These 11 athletes are the first men’s rugby athletes to receive full-time residency training contracts from USA Rugby.
The Eagles beat Zimbabwe, but were bested by rivals Canada 12-22 in the bowl semifinal. With 17 Series points, the USA will focus on the transition to full-time residency at the Olympic Training Center in January 2012 and the New Zealand Sevens in February.
The USA went 2-1 on day one of the South Africa Sevens, the third stop on the HSBC Sevens World Series with a win over Argentina (21-14) and losses to Samoa (12-14) and England (7-26). They now face Zimbabwe in the bowl quarterfinals.
