BOULDER, Colo. – USA Rugby has confirmed the dates and locations for two of the Men’s Eagles summer matches. The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., will host the Pacific Nations Cup match against Tonga on June 14, while the first Rugby World Cup Qualifier against Canada on August 17 will be held at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, S.C.
Just a week after the June 8 test match against Ireland in Houston, Texas, the Home Depot Center will be home to the Eagles' only match on U.S. soil of the Pacific Nations Cup. Tonga has taken the past two meetings against the Eagles – a 44-13 Churchill Cup win in 2011 and, more recently, a 22-13 victory last November in Wales.
Blackbaud Stadium, home field of USL PRO’s Charleston Battery, previously hosted the Rugby World Cup Qualifier between the Eagles and Canada on July 4, 2009, a 12-6 Eagles win. It will not be the first time the Eagles see Canada this summer, as the Pacific Nations Cup meeting between the two in Canada is set for May 25. Read more here.
"We have an interesting mix of test matches this summer with Tonga, Fiji, Japan, Ireland and Canada, all winnable games," Eagle Paul Emerick said. "They will give us the chance to move up in the IRB rankings. I'll be ready for Charleston in August."
