Eagles roster announced for Pacific Nations Cup match against Canada

BOULDER, Colo. – Men’s Eagles Head Coach Mike Tolkin released today the list of 24 players to appear in the first match of the Eagles’ 2013 spring/summer season in Edmonton, Canada, May 25.

Captain Todd Clever will lead the Eagles against border rival Canada in the Pacific Nations Cup match at Ellerslie Rugby Park. Tolkin has also included 14 players from the recent camp at Life University in Atlanta, including Mike MacDonald, Brian Doyle, and Andrew Suniula. Blaine Scully and Luke Hume will take advantage of a break in the Men’s Eagles Sevens’ schedule to meet up with the Eagles, as well.

Chris Biller is recovering from a foot injury and will be replaced by Tom Coolican. Chris Wyles, Scott Lavalla, Taku Ngwenya and Samu Manoa are finishing their commitments abroad.

Saturday's match will open the Eagle's 2013 schedule following their first test series win in November on the Fall Tour against Russia, Tonga and Romania. The Eagles will go head-to-head with Tonga at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., June 14 in the second Pacific Nations Cup match before finishing the series in Japan on June 19 and 23.

Tolkin is preparing the Eagles for the match against Canada with a camp in Glendale, Colo., May 17-22. After the trip north of the border, the Eagles will then travel to Houston, Texas, in preparation for the international test against Ireland at BBVA Compass Stadium June 8.

So wait....does this mean Samu's back in the fold after using us to get a contract with Saints?

Samu didn't use you or the US. Most players play for a team and their country. Samu has the final of the Aviva Premiership on Saturday and I expect his contract ties him into that commitment legally. I'm sure the lad who is playing instead would prefere that Samu did't just pop back into the team with no practice and training. Canada will win anyway and Samu is off to France after hopefully lifting the Aviva trophy. Go Saints!
