Eagles Abroad continues to grow as hooker Chris Biller signs with Bath

The big news this week was Chris Biller signing with Bath Rugby Club on a short-term basis as injury cover for the club.  Biller arrived in England on Thanksgiving but was unavailable for Bath’s match against Worcester on Friday.  Bath lost the match 16-7.  Biller’s three-month deal is similar to the one John van der Giessen signed with Bath last year.  With upcoming European and Anglo-Welsh Cup matches, there should be plenty of opportunity for Biller to show the team how good American ruggers are!

Staying in the Aviva Premiership, it was an l-American showdown as Samu Manoa and his Northampton Saints took on Chris Wyles, Hayden Smith and Saracens.  It was Manoa’s team that put in the more impressive performance, winning the game 30-8.  Wyles played 80 minutes, while Manoa played 18 minutes as a second-half sub.  Smith wasn’t on the game day roster.

In the RFU Championship, Mike MacDonald and Robbie Shaw both got the start for Leeds in their 25-19 win over Rotherham last Friday.  The win leaves the team in 7th place with 34 points after 12 matches played.

Shawn Pittman started once again for London Welsh as they beat Plymouth Albion 24-9.  Pittman almost went the entire match, only coming out in the 80+1 minute.  The Exiles are only one point behind the table leaders, Bristol.

Down in Cornwall, Andrew Suniula continues to get starts for the Cornish Pirates.  He once again started at center, but it wasn’t enough to help his team. The Pirates lost to Doncaster 36-21.  Pirates sit 5th in the table.

Derek Asburn started for Oxford in their 20-32 loss to Esher Reseves on Monday.  Up next is the Varsity Match against Cambridge on Tuesday at Twickenham.

In France, Taku Ngwenya took his usual place on the wing for Biarritz as they lost to Racing Metro 28-9.  Biarritz are off to their worst start in recent memory and sit at the bottom of the Top 14 table with only one win.

Scott LaValla once again made an appearance for Stade Francais coming on in the 79th minute as Stade beat Perpignan 35-16.

Kevin Swiryn wasn’t in the match day squad for Agen, who beat Bordeaux 24-15.

Seta Tuilevuka said in a recent interview that he is close to returning from injury and playing again for Montpellier.  Montpellier won their match against Clermont 29-23.

Still in France but outside the Top 14, Inaki Basauri continued to start for Perigueux as they defeated Dax 23-18.  The win was only the second of the season for Basauri’s team and leaves them remaining at the bottom of the Pro D2 table.

In the RaboDirect Pro12, Hanno Dirksen played 6 minutes as a sub for the Ospreys in their 17-6 defeat of Connact.

Tommy Seymour did not dress for the Glasgow Warriors.  The Warriors beat Ulster 17-9.

In Japan, Todd Clever and Suntory had the weekend off from Top League play.
