Swarthmore College

Welcome to Swarthmore Women's Rugby Club! We are a DIII team in Southeastern Pennsylvania. We are all about taking a break from our crazy lives to play good, clean rugby with a fantastic group of women. Our number one priority is to have fun playing rugby! But we also take ourselves seriously on the pitch. Just in the past few seasons, we have significantly improved our playing and have just had the best season that our club has ever seen. We are very proud of what we have accomplished and are excited to build on it! Old or new, experienced rugger or green-as-grass recruit, there’s a place for you on our team. Check us out, anytime!

Check out our website or Facebook group for more information! You can find videos of our Prom Dress game, team pictures, match schedules, and more.

Swarthmore rugby was founded in the nineties and became a chartered club in 2004. Over the years, we have built a strong tradition of excellence. Most recently, under our coach Laurie Focacci, we placed 3rd in the 2012 EPRU Division III Championships in fall of 2012. In addition, we consistently outshine the opposition in our attire (and on the pitch) during our annual Prom Dress Rugby game in the spring (voted #9 Sports Illustrated’s “102 More Things You Gotta Do Before You Graduate” http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/sioncampus/10/27/east/index.html).

Prospective Players

We are always looking for more women to play! There is no need to know how to play rugby. Or even to know what the sport looks like. In fact, many players start out in college with no prior exposure to the sport. We practice Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday on Cunningham field from 4:30-6:30pm and play five or so games each semester. The fall is our competitive season and in the spring we schedule our own games. All you need are cleats, we supply the rest!
