Shippensburg W

Shippensburg Women's Rugby is a club sport at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania; located in South Central Pennsylvania. We are currently in Division II competing against schools in the greater Pennsylvania area such as: Temple, La Salle, Bloomsburg, University of Delaware, Kutztown, and many more. Our team has a long history of success which is attributed by our hard work and dedication on and off the field. We have made connections all over the country and abroad. As a team we have traveled and played coast to coast, in England, and in Ireland. During our spring break we alternate between in and out of country trips. We have been able to play and learn from different teams and styles that we wouldn’t normally see. Not only do we love to play rugby but the tradition and team culture that is created.

The parking lot for Eckles field is accessed by turning onto right (if driving towards campus) or left (if driving away from campus) onto Fort Street from Earl Street. The back entrance is accessed in front of Old Main behind the steam plant communter parking lot.

Founded in 1983 Ship Women’s Rugby has had long standing success. The club has secured numerous EPRU & MARFU championship titles. In both 2008 & 2009 we won Division II collegiate Championships against University of Minnesota-Duluth & Stonehill College. In 2011 the team ended their season 6th in the nation. The following year (2012) we finished 4th in the nation. Off the field the team has won campus awards for advocating for women’s rights and outstanding club status. Over half of our team makes the dean’s list each year and participate in honors organizations. The team strives to give back to the community with service projects on campus, at local schools, and animal shelters. Our strong work both on and off the field has afforded us great success over the years and we look forward to continuing the tradition.

Prospective Players

Shippensburg Women's Rugby accepts all interested students that bring their individual skills and fitness to the team. Experience is not necessary, and we encourage and invite all interested females to come out and practice. We know it won’t take long to fall in love with the sport we are head over heels for. We ask that once committed, be ready to work and play hard. Currently we have about 30 players that practice twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 3:30 and 5:30 @ Eckles Field in front of Old Main. In addition the team participates in team fitness for one hour on Mondays and Wednesdays. Our goal is to play Rugby to the best of our ability and continue to excel both individually and as a team. Shippensburg Women's Rugby is an excellent program that educates and enhances player’s skills and techniques. Players without any experience can better their athletic performance. Over half the team had never played a game of rugby prior to their freshman year of college and are now in the starting fifteen. Their transition to playing such a different sport is challenging, but most have played in various athletic experiences in high school which can make the transition easier. We invite all to come out to practice, bring a pair of cleats and a mouth guard, and be part of a wonderful team with a blend of different athletes that each bring something special to the team and experience an incredible game of rugby.
