The club was founded in the early months of 2010 by a group of students who thought it would be a good idea to start a rugby club. At the time it was called Montgomery College Rugby Club. These individuals dedicated time and effort into getting at least 10 people to come and play. In the pilot stages, they struggled to get even 5 people to come out to practice but consistently attended practice regardless. Eventually, they were able to get 10-13 players to go play their first game ever to have opponents from a club either than themselves. As you can imagine, there were no jerseys or anything that identified them as a team. For their first 3 or 4 games they played with regular plain white t-shirts with numbers duck-taped to the back of them.
As time went by, more players joined and the seriousness started to manifest. Late 2011 they were able to get a sponsor, MLB Technologies, so they designed and bought themselves jerseys. That marked a turning point in the team's willingness to dedicate time and effort. In the 2012 Spring season the Knights went on to win 3 out of 5 games, losing to American University and drawing with Frostburg University.
In the Winter of 2013 the club's name changed from Montgomery College Knights to Montgomery County Knights Rugby. This change took place after it was decided that the team wanted to be more of a community team.
