AboutWe are a rapidly growing and evolving program, that combines old school skills and strategies with new age training and philosophies. Though still an intramural sport, we compete with the same focus, drive and dedication as varsity athletes. We have created and strive to maintain a positive image for ourselves, rugby and women's athletics as a whole, on campus as well as around our city, state and country. Their success on the field has translated into more than wins and losses. These young women have set the bar and are currently redefining what is known about the world of women's rugby.
The Florida International University Women's Rugby Football Club was founded in 2009. A handful of motivated young women wanted to play rugby. They practiced where they could find enough space to run, with and without lights. They crammed uncomfortably into cars for games because all of their games were away since they had no home pitch. Consummate underdogs that they were, they kept their heads held high and trod on. They found a coach, and after endless adversity, a year and half of ugly defeats at the hands of inter-city and inter-state opponents, they found "Something Inside So Strong," started believing, and they started winning games. We are currently the # Division II Collegiate women's rugby team in Florida. We are also the Ruggerfest 2012 Defending Champions and 2012 All Florida Dayz Runner-ups.
