About

The American University men’s rugby team plays in the Capitol Rugby Union (PRU) against such teams as Georgetown, Catholic, George Washington, Navy, and Frostburg. In the Spring, we compete in the College Playoffs and participate in a variety of tournaments and exhibition games.

Practice is twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays on the intramural turf, at Tenley Campus or at Fort Reno Park in Tenleytown. Games are mostly on Saturdays, with some Friday Night Lights games. We run two teams, and everyone has the opportunity for playing time.

We have an excellent and dedicated USA Rugby-certified coaching team, and a long history of turning chunks of worthless DNA into athletes. Guest coaches make frequent visits, and team members attend numerous specialized instruction sessions under the tutelage of USA Rugby’s international coaches. Every season our standout players have an opportunity to play for All-Star and regional select teams. We have close ties with Washington men’s clubs, and have traditionally graduated a large number of players to major league and even international honors.

AURFC functions as both a sport and a social club, and maintains a strong commitment to both the AU community and the Washington area rugby community. Anyone is welcome to join and no experience is necessary.
