As coach of the AppState wymyn's rugby team for the past 16 years it pained me/us to have to decline the chance for us to play in our first final four for the Div. II championship. Given the timeframe (less than two weeks after the elite eight games were played at Penn State) that meant the airfare was outrageous ($500 per player not including hotels costs, etc.) made the cost for the team traveling cross-country to Stanford Univ. was untenable for a team that receives very little university support (approx. $500 / year). I'm very proud of the effort my wymyn put in this season to make it to the final four. I also wish the best of luck to those teams playing next week in Cali. Go get 'em Mary Wash, we'll be cheering for you.
    Doc.

Its such a shame the universities these girls represent can't do more to support them. My daughter plays for the IUP team who were in the same situation but opted to face the challenge & fundraise with a fever. That in addition to final exams has me nervous.... 16 of our girls are scheduled to graduate on Saturday 5/10 but will instead be taking their caps/gowns with them to California to play in Nationals. My plea goes out to all rugby lovers to help them reach their fundraising goals http://www.gofundme.com/8opnwk
